I bungled my way into the storytelling circuit this year which is a new thing for me.
If you aren’t familiar, there’s a growing trend of shows devoted to humorous (intentionally) and semi-humorous (unintentionally) telling of stories for 5-15 minutes. (Any longer than that and you’re doing a one woman show. ) It’s not stand-up although there may be jokes it’s in the service of a (supposedly) true retelling of event.
I’ve done shows at a couple theaters and at one coffee shop. I’ve watched more of it this year to get a sense of it. It seems there’s two basic approaches: people who make a lot of poor choices and get into drugs and weird sex and violent situations and celebrities, then recount the proceedings to the audience AND people who suffer some minor slight and their neuroses take over and spin a inconvenience molehill into a panic mountain.
I suspect I’m more of the second category than the first, mainly because I don’t do anything. Literally. I rarely leave my house and I (make excuses to not) draw pictures. I’d rather be in the first. Aside from the shotgun to the brain, everyone would rather be Hemingway than Jerry Seinfeld.
Anyway, I’m co-hosting Oh, Hey Guys! tonight at 6 PM at the UCBeast.
Yes! Love this and love the poster!

This sounds super cool. I hope there are some events like this out in LA, I’d like to try my hand at it.
